Canadian Parenting Coordinators Association, CPCA Legislation: Provincial InitiativesCurrently there is very little happening in Canada with respect to implementing parenting coordination legislation. The only initiative that we are aware of is in Alberta, and that has been inactive for several months. Alberta - PC legislation In Alberta, Blain Cellars of the Calgary Co-Parenting Centre is spearheading an initiative to implement legislation. The concept has been briefly introduced to the Children's Services minister, the Hon. Heather Forsyth. Anyone who is interested in this initiative, or has an opinion on PC legislation, either for or against, is invited to contact Blain at (403) 701-6647 or by email at . Currently in Alberta, Family Law Practice Note 7 provides for "court-directed parental conflict intervention", but the descriptions of sections 2 and 3 fall short of what is needed. (Link to Practice Note 7) Also, Alberta Justice's, Brief Conflict Intervention, a pilot project of the Provincial Court, offers a service that is in some ways similar to parenting coordination. Other Provinces - PC legislation As far as we know, there are no initiatives underway in any provinces other than Alberta. If anyone is aware of an initiative or would like to start one, please contact us.
